Tomás Soto Fernández

First baseman Tomás Soto was a top player in the first two seasons of the Cuban Serie Nacional. In 1962, the Occidentales player led in doubles (10), RBI (19, tied with Ramón Hechavarría and Pedro Carvajal) and sacrifice flies (3, tied with Óscar Valdés). In 1962-1963, he led in walks (31), strikeouts (17) and sacrifice flies (3, even with Urbano González). Soto wound up playing 10 seasons, with a career line of .249/.359/.321 in a pitcher's era. He fielded .982.

Soto later managed for nine seasons with Citricultores and Matanzas, with a cumulative record of 265-269. He guided the Citricultores to a title in 1983-1984, their last championship.
