Tom Yewcic was signed by the Detroit Tigers in 1954 and came up with them for one game in 1957. However, he had more success in the AFL in 1961-66.
He was a two-sport athlete at Michigan State University, serving as quarterback in the Rose Bowl Game. After his baseball days, he played a season in the Canadian Football League before he became a member of the Boston Patriots of the old AFL. He played quarterback and punted for the Patriots and sometimes even played flanker and wide receiver.
After his playing days, he was a college coach and then went back to the Patriots as an assistant coach. As of December 2006, he is a partner in a surgical supply company.
