[edit] Biographical Information

Not much is known about Tom Ryder. SABR researchers in 2002 tracked down his birthplace and place of death (Dubuque, IA). Source: SABR Biographical Research Committee Monthly Report for March/April 2002.

His team, the 1884 St. Louis Maroons, won first place in the 1884 Union Association. Ryder mostly played left field, a position that was usually manned by either Buttercup Dickerson or Henry Boyle. Among others, pitcher Charlie Sweeney also played there on occasion as did the 18-year-old Perry Werden.
