Tom McLaughlin, born in Louisville, KY, played five seasons in the majors, mostly with the Louisville team.
A weak-hitting shorstop / second baseman for most of his major league career, he had his best year with the 1891 Washington Statesmen when he hit .268 with a .400 OBP in 14 games.
McLaughlin also played several seasons in the International Association.
According to the Encyclopedia of Louisville, Volume 2000, McLaughlin was among the first team members to order up a bat of the sort later called the Louisville Slugger.
When Pete Browning died, Tom was one of the ex-players who served as a pallbearer.
