Pitcher Tommy Hughes went 20-6 for the Fresno Cardinals in 1955 and led the California League with 273 strikeouts. He then played two years with the Houston Buffaloes of the Texas League, going 18-6 with a 2.70 ERA in his first season and 14-4 with a 2.87 mark in his second. After serving in the Army for two years, he appeared in two games for the 1959 St. Louis Cardinals but was out of baseball after two more seasons.
