Uncle of Johnny Evers, Tom Evers played one game in the 1882 American Association and 109 games in the 1884 Union Association. He tied for second place in games played in the short-lived Union Association.
Tom was born in 1852 in Troy, NY, a hotbed of early baseball. He was 30 by the time he came to the majors, and 32 when he played in the 1884 Union Association. He was by far the oldest regular on the 1884 Washington Nationals.
A great many other major leaguers have been born in Troy, NY, including Tom's nephew Johnny as well as King Kelly, who was born there five years after Tom.
