Todd Blyleven pitched seven seasons in the minor leagues, reaching AA, then scouted. He is the son of Bert Blyleven.
Blyleven went to the California Angels in the 39th round of the 1990 amateur draft out of high school. He fell to the 90th round of the 1991 amateur draft when the Los Angeles Dodgers chose him. Undrafted in 1993 as a junior, he signed with the Angels. He was 4-4 with a 3.60 ERA that year for the AZL Angels.
In 1994, the right-hander pitched for the Boise Hawks (4-2, 2.17, 53 K in 45 2/3 IP) and Lake Elsinore Storm (1-2, 2.98). He spent '95 with the Storm (0-1, 4.32) and Midland Angels (3-1, 5.02) before the Angels let him go. Signing with the independent Sioux City Explorers, he was 8-6 with a 4.73 ERA.
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed the son of their former star for 1996 and he split the year between the Augusta Greenjackets (1-2, 2 Sv, 3.72) and Lynchburg Hillcats (2-1, Sv, 2.09). Moving on to the Milwaukee Brewers organization in '97, he was 1-0 with a 3 2/3 shutout innings for the Stockton Ports to end his career. Overall, he had a 24-19, 3.53 record in 99 minor league games.
Todd next went into scouting, first for the Angels, then the Colorado Rockies, from 2000-2007. He signed Kevin Jepsen, Troy Tulowitzki, Ian Stewart, Mitchell Arnold and Steve Andrade.
He later opened a baseball academy.
