 Biographical Information
Todd Abbott was drafted four times. The New York Mets took him in the 48th round of the 1991 amateur draft out of high school, then the Toronto Blue Jays chose him in the 47th round of the 1992 amateur draft. After one year without being picked, he went to the Cleveland Indians in the 38th round of the 1994 amateur draft. Finally, the Oakland A's took him in the 44th round of the 1995 amateur draft, their last pick of the year.
The tall right-hander split the summer of '95 between the Southern Oregon A's (2-3, Sv, 2.96) and Huntsville Stars (3 R in 6 2/3 IP). In 1996, he had a 11-7, 3.98 record and one save for the West Michigan Whitecaps. Moving up to the Visalia Oaks in 1997, he put together a 11-10, 5.93 campaign. He was one win shy of tying for the lead among A's farmhands. In his final season, 1998, he struggled out of the bullpen for Visalia (3-3, Sv, 7.12, 71 H in 48 IP) but did well in his brief AAA stint with the Edmonton Trappers (0 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 4 2/3 IP over 3 G). His career record in pro ball was 27-23, 4.87.
Abbott has been baseball coach at Bentonville High School.
