Timothy B. Kurkjian

Tim Kurkjian is an American sportswriter and television personality. He was one of the first journalists to make the leap from the written word to television.

Kurkjian began his career with the Washington Star in 1978. From the Star he returned to his native Baltimore with the Baltimore News-American. He left the city later in 1981 to cover the Texas Rangers for the Dallas Morning News.

When the opportunity arose to return home, Kurkjian joined the Baltimore Sun to cover the Baltimore Orioles beat. He stayed with the Sun for three years before becoming the national baseball writer at Sports Illustrated.

Kurkjian signed with ESPN in 1998. At ESPN, he appears frequently on Baseball Tonight. His analysis is also frequently in ESPN: The Magazine and on ESPN.com. Kurkjian is also a contributor to NPR's Only a Game.
