The Texas-Louisiana League was one of the first independent leagues to be formed when the indies got their revival in the mid-90s. Trying to capitalize on the 1993 success of the Northern League, the Texas-Louisiana got its start in 1994 and drew over 600,000 fans its first year with 8 teams from Texas, Alabama and Louisiana. The league was centrally organized to increase parity. In 2002 the league changed its name to the Central Baseball League.
