[edit] Biographical Information
Pitcher Tex Hughson was a three time All-Star with the Boston Red Sox and wore the number 21 on his uniform, like future UT alum and Red Sox hurler Roger Clemens. He came up with the club in 1941 and won 22 games the following year. He missed the 1945 season due to military service in World War II, serving in the Army from August 1944 to January 1946, but returned to the club in 1946 and won 20 games. On September 13, 1946, Hughson was the winning pitcher when the Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 1-0 to clinch the American League pennant. He retired before the 1950 season due to a chronic arm injury.
After his baseball career ended, Hughson was a real estate developer. He died of kidney failure at age 77.
