Tex Shirley, who pitched five years in the majors in the 1940's, was part of the only Browns team that went to the World Series, the 1944 St. Louis Browns. He went 5-4 that year and threw two scoreless innings in Game 4 of the Series.
Shirley had control issues, with 290 walks given up in 446.7 innings in the majors.
He played for Tyler in 1939. He pitched for Springfield in the Eastern League in between his two major league stints. He went 13-3 for Drummondville in 1949.
He is one of five major leaguers with the last name Shirley (through 2007).
