[edit] Biographical Information
Pitcher Terry Ryan was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 35th round of the 1972 amateur draft, played four seasons in their organization, and posted a 14-3 lifetime record before his career was ended by an arm injury.
Ryan returned to baseball in 1980 as a scout for the New York Mets. He served as Scouting Director of the Twins from 1986 to 1991 and was General Manager of the team from 1994 to 2007, when he stepped down, citing burnout, and was replaced by Bill Smith. He continued to work with the Twins' organization, however, as a Senior Advisor to the General Manager. After a difficult season in 2011, Smith was fired, and Ryan was named to take over his former job on an interim basis.
