Terashi Donoue played for Den Den Hokuriku in the industrial leagues after high school. The Chunichi Dragons took him in the 6th round of the 1970 draft. He was 0 for 1 in 1972, his Central League debut, while an outfielder. Donoue allowed 2 runs in 3 innings in 1974, after converting to pitching. He was 0-1 with a 3.80 ERA in 18 games in 1975.
Donoue was 4-4 with a save and a 3.33 ERA in 27 games in 1976. Terashi had a 5-8, 4.30 record with a save in 1977. He fell to 9-18 with four saves and a 4.48 ERA in 54 games in 1978, allowing 227 hits in 197 innings. He led the Central League in losses and made the CL All-Star team for the only time.
The right-hander allowed 32 hits and 19 runs in 21 innings in 1979. He was 7-7 with a 4.96 ERA in 1980. Donoue went 1-3 with a save and a 4.12 ERA in 1981.
The Wajima native had a 1-0, 1.24 record in 1982 in 28 games. He made four appearances in the 1982 Japan Series, but totaled only 2 1/3 IP; he allowed one run. He was 0-1 with a .406 opponent average and 8.18 ERA in 16 games in 1983 for a sharp contrast from '82.
Donoue rebounded to go 8-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 40 games in 1984, then wrapped up by allowing 25 hits, 14 walks and 22 runs in 13 2/3 IP in 1985, going 0-2.
For his career, Terashi was 35-49 with 7 saves and a 4.36 ERA in 320 appearances for Chunichi. The former outfielder hit .230/.243/.362 with 4 home runs in 213 AB, not bad offense for a pitcher. He is the father of Naomichi Donoue and Takehiro Donoue; they became the first NPB family to have a father and two sons all hit home runs. He and Takehiro became the first NPB father-son combo to both play in the Japan Series.
