Ted Rogers was the owner of the Toronto Blue Jays since September 1, 2000, when his Rogers Communications Inc. purchased eighty percent of the club. Since the 2003 season, he owned one hundred percent of the team. The Blue Jays' home ballpark, was renamed the Rogers Centre after Rogers' firm purchased the stadium.
Rogers died from congestive heart failure on December 2, 2008, at his home in Toronto.
