Ted Pawelek, who had served in the Marine Corps in World War II, appeared in four games in September 1946 in the majors, coming to the field once as a catcher. The regular catcher for the 1946 Cubs that year was Clyde McCullough.
His minor league career stretched from 1939-53, with a gap for 1942-45.
Pawelek managed the Pampa Oilers to 5th place in 1953.
A scout for the Detroit Tigers at the time of his passing, he died in a car crash at age 44.
There is a photo of him arguing with an umpire in Baseball in Norfolk, Virginia from 1949, when he played for Portsmouth.
