Walter O'Malley, yea he may still be (and may always be) hated in Brooklyn, but he was the first modern baseball man. He defined the modern game in that fans now follow the business end as much as the game play. Walter O'Malley forced baseball to grow up in to the 20th century by saying to the American people that baseball IS a business and to survive and compete it must be treated as such. If he had stayed in the old paradigm would the Boston Red Sox be where they are today? Would the Dodgers even exist at all?

Walter O'Malley reminded us that in the end it is about money, it is an entertainment vehicle that must make a buck or its nothing.
