Talk:Von Hayes

I never understood the Hayes trade. Trillo was still pretty solid at second during this phase of his career (won the Gold Glove in 1982). Julio Franco was a tremendous prospect at SS who tore up the minors (I personally saw him play in Reading and he was electric). The other three guys were decent, not great.

Hayes never really panned out. 267 lifetime average, never hit 100 RBI's, only scored 100 runs once, hit more than 20 HR's only twice.

On the oher hand, Julio Franco is a borderline HOFer.

Von's MLB offensive stats were more impressive than Franco to that point and they were the same age basically. Trillo was not that impressive offensively anymore and in decline. In retrospect, it was a bad trade, but I can see it as defensible. - --Mischa 11:55, 28 June 2006 (EDT)
