Talk:Ted Simmons
From BR Bullpen
Ted for the Hall of Fame..... over due.
No kidding! Check out the year to year comparison with Fisk if you want to see the joke.
Tell me each position player who leads in hits and is second in RBI's to see if they are in the HOF. Rose doesn't count! A complete joke!
Simmons is worthy, but I'll take Santo in the Hall first --Just me 17:50, 12 December 2006 (EST)
I'm trying to make this more about Simmons and less about the HOF. --Just me 10:13, 18 January 2007 (EST)
As someone who is old enough to have followed baseball during all of Simmons' career, I was surprised when he was dropped from the ballot. I presume that a lot of the BBWAA voters weren't aware of Simmons' accomplishments with the bat compared to Hall of Fame catchers. And while I'm not against Santo's election to the Hall, I think it's clear Simmons was more dominant in the history of catchers than Santo was in the history of third basemen. - Randy 23:27 5 April 2007 (EDT)
[edit] ted simmons hall of fame
A few things that get overlooked with Ted Simmons: The Bush Stadium he played in was second to the Houston Astrodome as the hardest Park to hit a home run in the National League. Some of those doubles would have been homeruns on other parks. While he was no Johnny Bench in this regard, I remember he had a very strong throwing arm. In an era of good base stealers, this was important.
