Talk:Steel Arm Johnny Taylor
From BR Bullpen
What college(s) did he coach at? --Jeff 22:44, 22 November 2009 (EST)
- In Riley's Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Leagues, it mentions that he coached Biddle University in 1899 and 1905, and also coached the M & I College team of Holly Springs, MS. Riley mentions no other college teams by name, but says that "Taylor often coached college teams", so I suspect there were more than just the two mentioned. -- Couillaud 00:40, 23 November 2009 (EST)
- And while I'm here, this article should probably be renamed to either "Steel Arm Johnny Taylor" or "Jonathan Taylor", to make it easier to distinguish him from John "Schoolboy" Taylor, whenever we get an article on him. -- Couillaud 00:40, 23 November 2009 (EST)
- There, that was quick. Thanks. -- Couillaud 17:32, 23 November 2009 (EST)

There's a Rust College in Holly Springs, which was known as Shaw University and Rust University. But I don't see it being called M & I at all. --Jeff 02:54, 23 November 2009 (EST)
- It's what Riley quoted. I'll see what I can find from other sources. It was a Negro college close to a century ago, and it is possible that it's now defunct. -- Couillaud 17:32, 23 November 2009 (EST)
