Hello -

My name is Wayne Robison and I am from Minneapolis, MN. Mr. Hibbard and his wife were very good friends with my mother and father from the middle 60's through the early 80's. I was born in 1965. Although I was young and my memory is poor, I have very fond memories of him.

I remember him telling me stories about his time playing baseball and that he played in the Olympics. I finally bumped into this site. One story that I distinctly remember was when he was either trying out or playing with the NY Yankee's in the early 30's (If anyone reading this can tell me if he played pro ball, I would appreciate it).

He told me that he had always looked up to Babe Ruth and really looked forward to meeting him. Until he realized that Babe was a belligerent drunk. Apparently while everyone was out taking "BP" and warming up prior to a game, The Babe was in the locker room all by himself slamming beers, getting hammered. This was apparently a routine thing for the Babe and everyone on the team knew and accepted it (for all I know this is a well known fact).

I didn't write this to diminish the Babe, just pass along a story that was witnessed 1st hand, a long time ago.

And also to thank Mr. Hibbard for coming to so many of my baseball and footbal games when I was growing up. I never appreciated it as much as I should have as a kid and never did get a chance to tell him that I remember and I appreciated his unqualified friendship.

Thanks for listening!
