Talk:Philadelphia Giants

What was the mythic black national championship? Did actually exist or was it determined later on? --MichaelEng 10:59, 19 Mar 2006 (EST)
Teams would claim to be the top black team. Philadelphia did face the Brooklyn Royal Giants in a championship series (best of 3) in 1905, but there is no record of such a tournament in either of the next two years. Heck, in 1907, there is no record that the Giants, Royal Giants and Cuban Stars even played each other at all. Sometimes two teams claimed to be the best team (the Cuban Giants and Cuban X-Giants in 1900 and 1901). - --Mischa 11:03, 19 Mar 2006 (EST)
Ok, thanks. --MichaelEng 11:08, 19 Mar 2006 (EST)
The Philadelphia Giants played the Brooklyn Royal Giants twelve times in 1905. Some books have written that the two teams played three games. This information is incorrect. The Philadelphia Giants won every game of that twelve game series. You can read Phil Dixon's American Baseball Chronicles, The Great Teams, The 1905 Philadelphia Giants to find more of the details on this series. The series could not have been for the World's Championship as the Brooklyn team was not as good as the Cuban X Giants. Out west Frank Leland's Chicago Leland Giants won 48 straight to finish as the top team in the western region.
