Norm Cash (one of my favorite players) hit THE LONGEST Ball I have ever seen. I have seen a lot of them as I worked as a kid usher at Briggs Stadium/Tiger Stadium for several years and saw all the games. I cannot remember who the Tigers were playing but Norm rocketed a ball that was still going on an upward trajectory when it hit the top of the light rack high on the roof in right field. It is hard to tell how far that ball would have gone since it was still traveling upward. Too bad it hit the lights as it would have for sure ended up on the roof of the Checker Cab Building accross the street! It was interesting to note that the opposing teams outfielder never got out of his crouch when the ball was hit. He never made any attempt to back up! Why bother when you see one hit like that! He simply glanced over his shoulder to see the ball hit the lights.

Here's to Norm for the many years of pleasure he provided to me and others. His enjoyment of the game was infectious, and there will never be another like him.
