Talk:New Castle Chiefs
From BR Bullpen
This old-time field is still in use today, although the original dug-outs are gone, the light towers, are still in place, and in use, its home to New Castle High , and there are numerous summer leauge games played on it. The North County Leauge Champs, Summertime Heroes, a Independent Leauge, won this past seasons championship. Coached by Mark Elisco, who now in fact is the only groundskeeper, and has been for quite a long time, 14 years. The "Heroes, are the old Remacor Rems,of the same North County Leauge, and holdover players that are still active today, are C- Mark Gozur, inf-Cederick Hawkins, outfielder-George Murray, from nearby, Lowellville,Oh, and outfielder-Brian Popovich. No further info is avaialable at this time.
[edit] Flaherty Field-New Castle, PA
This particular field/stadium, now plays home to the New Castle High baseball team, and various summer leauge youth teams, along with being the home field of the Summertime Heroes Baseball Club, the now defunct Remacor Rems'.
Long time player manager Mark Elisco, who is still active , is the primary groundskeeper, and all games must go thru him, times, days , etc. While the underground dugouts are gone, the lighting below average at best, a dilapidated fence, and very uneven outfield grass, this park still plays home to 100"s of games, also, no score board, PA system, broken and dry rotted bleachers, is oftem overlooked so teams may play in the this spacious piece of land.
Most notably, the 'Heroes , as mentioned above play the vast majority of the games there with Elisco being the head coach, and full time groudskeeper.Holdovers of the Heroes from the Remacor team are,in alphabetical order:
Eric Germani, New Castle,Pa-INF Mark Gozur,New Middletown,Oh-Catc. Cedrick Hawkins,New Castle,Pa-Inf George Murray,Lowellville,Oh-Outf Brian Popovich, New Castle,Pa-Outf
While the leauge has now merged with nearby Beaver County, the quality of play has remained competive,a lack of baseball intrest in this dying steel town, has left only a few actual New Castle based entries in this North County Leauge, with a few college players still enjoying playing out their summers at this once gorgeous park.
