Talk:Memo Luna
From BR Bullpen
Does anyone know why Luna never got out of the first inning in his major league debut? What happened to him after this game?
No, but apparently he's mentioned in a Sporting News article in 1983. He is also mentioned in Paul Auster's novel MOON PALACE. (Note also that his last name means "moon" in Spanish, and another rookie on the '54 Cards tore the joint up and won NL Rookie of the Year: Wally Moon).
The Sporting News article was about players from the 1950's who had appeared on baseball cards in spite of very short ML careers. Luna was a Mexican League veteran, and if I remember the article well, the back of his card was crammed with the statistics from his long career in Mexico, not leaving any space for any other text. --Philippe 02:47, 10 Dec 2005 (EST)
His plaque honoring him can be found at the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame in Monterrey Mexico.
