Talk:Jose Diaz (minors)
From BR Bullpen
Doyle only has this Jose D. Diaz as playing in '53 but has another in '57 and '59. Same guy? Can someone fill in the gaps? ---Mischa 17:59, 14 Jun 2006 (EDT)
I only knew Jose Diaz afrom playing on the Oshkosh Giants with him in 1953. Since he hit over .300, I would assume he advanced in the Giants farm system. However, he may also have returned to his native Dominican Republic. --Pitcher53
Can we check the Jose Diaz in '57 and '59 ? He might have been only age 19 in '53.
But even if he was 21, that would make him only 25 in 1957, etc. He seemed to be a good enough hitter and ballplayer to continue in pro ball after '53. As I said, he was from the Dominican Republic, and had the nickname "Chico," which I know is not unusual, but thought it might possibly help in identifying him. Seems odd, though, that he wouldn't be listed as a pro in '54 - '56. -----Pitcher53
Unfortunately, I don't have a baseball guide from 1960. The 1957 Guide lists Jose Diaz as a right-handed 3B/OF/2B. - --Mischa 07:15, 17 July 2006 (EDT)
I think I remember more clearly now that in 1953 with the Oshkosh Giants, Jose Diaz was only 19 years old. AND --- he was our third baseman ! And he was a right-handed hitter and thrower. He might have played second base or outfield later on in his career. In '53, he hit well, hitting over .300. We were all in the Giants organization, so he should have continued in their farm system. --Pitcher53
I'm guessing it's the same guy - might be wrong, but I'll put all the stats on this page. - --Mischa 21:46, 26 July 2006 (EDT)
