Yes he did pitch after being wounded.
He was my Dad's cousin and I met him several times.
Several times in my line of business I ran into people who knew him as a pitcher in the old Texas league and also an manager in Buffalo in the farm league.
On one occassion I received some tickets to Fenway park from "Greenie" as he is know to us. We, my dad, brother and 2 uncles sat behind the visiting team, Detroit's, dugout.
John also signed a rookie name Mark "The Bird" Fidrich. I met Mark several years ago in the Worcester Mass area and one I told him my last name all Mark could say was "My Coach, My Coach, I loved that guy"
I also had the opportunity one evening to talk with Joe Garragiola on a Hartford CT talk show. Once I introduced myself Joe talked about Greenie as his Hero because Greenie has served his country and was woulded during the war. Joe was an old friend of Greenie and at one time his battery mate in St. Louis.
