Is this the John Denny discussion page? The place to talk about the 1983 NL Cy Young Award winner? Well if it is, let me be the first to say that Denny was a real smuck. I met the arrogant piece of work when he was pitching for the Cardinals. They were not quite competitive yet; I was a loyal, excitable, local kid, one who visited the park probably 30-40 a season and always came early and stayed late to chat with players (met many a nice one). Denny was rude, smart-assed and otherwise a prick--to a 12 year-old. A real tough guy. What a jerk. Wasn't he mentioned in the Mitchell Report? Those are my glory days as a fan. The players I met were all nice men; many were quite funny. All were great but one: John Denny. Now I'm a college professor, and I love to digress during some slow class time and tell them the story about the jerk named John Denny. Many have heard the story through my years of teaching; my kids know it well. Now I'll use this forum to finally exorcise this demon forever. John Denny, I'm sure now you are no different. Once an arrogant jerk, those qualities never really go away. I'm just glad you did.
