Talk:Garry Templeton
From BR Bullpen
Wasn't Dave Winfield wearing a no flap helmet at the end of his career (1995)? --Jeff 02:00, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Hmmm. Maybe you're right. I made that edit based on memories from watching Templeton finish his career with the Mets. Perhaps it was he was the last National Leaguer? Does that seem right?
-- Unless we have an established source, I'd remove it or reword it. You could word it "one of the last" probably. - --Mischa 16:22, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
That's a good idea. I'll see if I can dig up a source on this.Kalbers 20:15, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
OK-I don't know what I was remembering, but I was completely wrong. Tim Raines in 2002 was the last to wear the flapless helmet. See [this article] at mlb.com.
Thanks to everyone for catching my mistake! Now off to edit Tim Raines....Kalbers 20:45, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
The 1982 Register includes the note about his father, but Riley's book has no Templetons. Anybody else have anything? --Jeff 23:27, 9 June 2007 (EDT)
Some players didn't appear long enough in the Negro Leagues to be "discovered" by the time of Riley's book. Others, like Oil Can Boyd's father, never made it to the "Major" Negro Leagues. Maybe you can check at nlbpa.com - --Mischa 08:38, 11 June 2007 (EDT)
