Wikipedia says the demonstration happened on August 16, 1870, and quotes the Brooklyn Eagle newspaper, August 17, 1870. The Sporting News has an article about the curveball quoting the same newspaper. findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1208/is_n29_v220/ai_18492006 To be fair, Goldsmith is called "a youth", so maybe he was indeed 14. - Randy 18:16, 1 July 2007 (EDT)
