Talk:Frank Gravino
From BR Bullpen
I pitched against Frank Gravino in 1954 when he played for Fargo in the Class C Northern League. I pitched for St. Cloud. Frank was just one great hitter. I know he really hit me hard. (As well as other pitchers apparently) As I recall, I think he may have worn eye-glasses that year, but I'm not sure. I believe MudCat Grant, a pitcher who later went to the major leagues, also was on the Fargo team. It was a very good team that year. We had Willie Kirkland on the St. Cloud team, and Willie was a fine hitter and power-hitter who went on to a career in the majors, as well as did our St.Cloud manager, Charlie Fox. I believe Phil Seghi managed Fargo, and he went on to become a general manager in the major leagues. Frank Gravino never made the major leagues despite his great minor league stats. Sometimes it is difficult to understand why this happens with some players. Frank hailed from Newark, NY, which was a short distance from my own home area of Canandaigua, NY. Frank also had a brother, Joe Gravino, who played semi-pro baseball in the Newark, NY area, and may have played pro ball briefly in the minor leagues.
