The New York-Penn League page on this site and Mike McCann's page list them as the Pioneers throughout the 70s in the NY-Penn, not as the Red Sox or Pioneer Red Sox. What do other sources say? = --Mischa 20:39, 16 May 2006 (EDT)

Johnson & Wolff have: Pioneers til 73, Red Sox 74-76, Pioneer Red Sox 77, Red Sox 78, Pioneers 79-80

Filichia has: Red Sox 73-75, Pioneers 76, Pioneer Red Sox 77-80,

Dick Berardino would be the guy to ask. He managed Elmira from 1973 to 1985 --Just me 02:04, 14 Jun 2006 (EDT)

Also, what about the Elmira Suns? Johnson & Wolff have the Suns from 81-83, while Filichia has the Suns from 83-88

I wonder if there is a way to access Elmira newspapers from the 70's and 80's. There are so many different timelines of what the nicknames were in the era. --Jeff 20:57, 31 March 2007 (EDT)

Maybe the Sporting News archive at Paper of Record has this information? - --Mischa 12:47, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Found them as the Pioneers in the July 28, 1973, July 17, 1976, and July 16, 1977 issues of TSN at paperofrecord. But they were the Red Sox in 1974 per the May 31, 1975 issue. And the Pioneer-Red Sox in 1975 according to the August 2, 1975 issue Pioneer-Red Sox in 1978 (July 8, 1978) Pioneers in 1979 (September 1, 1979 ) --Jeff 00:31, 7 December 2007 (EST)

Listed as the Suns in the May 31, 1982 issue and the August 15, 1983 issue, but the Pioneers in the July 9, 1984 issue. --Jeff 01:47, 7 December 2007 (EST)
