Just a note about my statement of Connie Mack's opinion of him: “Connie Mack considered him his most reliable pitcher.” I had originally said “most reliable big game pitcher”, but decided that I could not justify that assertion. I can find several places where Mack called Plank his “old reliable”, but he also referred to Bender as his “money” pitcher. It's certainly true that Mack never hesitated to turn to Eddie Plank in a big game, though. --Ted 15:29, 4 October 2008 (EDT)
