Talk:Chris Van Cuyk
From BR Bullpen
The commentary at baseballlibrary.com says that Chris Van Cuyk and Johnny Van Cuyk were brothers. However, BR doesn't say that. It seems quite possible, given that Van Cuyk isn't a common name, that both were born in Wisconsin, and that both played for Brooklyn. What do you think? - Randy 14:45, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
As further evidence, a site about Johnny says that Johnny lived in Kimberly, WI in 1952 - Kimberly is where Chris was born. John. - Randy 19:42, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
The 7/26/50 TSN specifically calls them brothers on page 26. --Jeff 22:31, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
We should add the families category to them and notify Sean to make the changes on the main BR pages. - --Mischa 08:53, 6 May 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for tracking that down. - Randy 23:17, 6 May 2008 (EDT)
Doyle lists a Joe Van Cuyk in the minors in the early 40s. A third brother maybe? - --Mischa 16:16, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
The 3/26/47 TSN and 2/25/48 TSN say that Johnny and Chris are brothers also. I'm looking for any reference to Joe. --Jeff 20:41, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
Apparently another brother was a "Bob Van Cuyk" who was a 16 year-old catcher in 1940 that was signed by Appleton. 4/11/40 TSN --Jeff 21:21, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
Starting in 1937, I found no references to Joe Van Cuyk, and one to Bob Van Cuyk. There were many references to John and Chris as brothers, and its clear they considered Chris to be a large man. They talked about his height often and listed his weight at higher than the 215 we have listed. --Jeff 21:29, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
