"SirKodiak" (who directed me to this site), suggests that this beaning incident also led to the eventual banning of the spitball

The Chapman beaning clearly did not lead to the banning of the spitball; the facts just don't line up:

  1. The majors made their first serious attempt to ban the spitball in the 1919-20 offseason, before the beaning.
  2. After the 1920 season (and the beaning) the leagues decided to grandfather existing spitballers, rather than banning the spitter completely as they had originally planned.
