170 Runs Per 162 Games

I don't understand the story at the bottom; who was the pitcher? --MichaelEng 00:40, 31 July 2006 (EDT)

I knew someone would ask that. Here's the thing. I read an article in the newspaper around 2000 about a very old guy who had just died. The article, essentially an obituary, mentioned that he had been with the Yankees in the 1920's, and had grown up listening to stories about baseball of the 1870's told by Cal McVery. I thought it was a wonderful story spanning generations: the stories of 1870's baseball, the elder McVey telling the stories sometime around 1900-1910 to this kid who would go on to pitch in the 1920's, and then this obit around the year 2000 when the player had just died. The drawback - I cannot remember the player's name, and although I've searched for it, there are a variety of possible candidates. Still, I thought it was such a good story, since it ties Cal McVey to the year 2000, that it ought to be in his biog. Somebody will come up with the player's name eventually. - Randy 00:45 31 July 2006 (EDT)

Iam trying to get as much info on Cal Mcvey as possible--he was a lesser knwon player but he must have been very good because his numbers are excellent. I need to know more about him besides numbers. Was he a drinker and loud mouth or was he a solid citizen. What were his Red Stocking stats? What did he do before and after baseball.
