Kinda surprising that Thigpen still holds the record for saves. The record that he broke was 46, which is now tied for 20th. --Jeff 02:57, 14 July 2007 (EDT)

When Thigpen set the record, Bill James wrote: "you know that when someone breaks a record by a huge margin, it means that basic conditions of the games have changed, and therefore it is likely that the record will be broken again. Records that hold for a long time tend to have been set by a small increment." He estimated that the all-time seasonal save record should eventually reach 80. Hasn't happened, unlikely to happen, although I expect to see a 60-save season in my lifetime. --Philippe 03:29, 14 July 2007 (EDT)

Philippe was right on the money --Jeff 00:16, 22 April 2009 (EDT)
