I think he's down to 7th in HRs, but is this copied from Minor League Stars, or written from his stats? --Just me 22:00, 2 January 2007 (EST)

I was a Little Leaguer in Hawaii in 1961 when Bobby played for the Islanders. He was the team's best hitter, and with his inside-out swing, he absolutely hammered the right field bleachers at old Honolulu Stadium. It was 302 ft. down the line and only about 330 to right-center, with a waist-high fence. As an aside, you should have seen Willie McCovey taking batting practice there when the Giants came over on a barnstorming trip after the 1960 season. I swear he tore out 15-20 rows of seats all by himself. Some of his BP homers that day are probably still traveling. It was the first time I'd ever seen real Major League players, and I was totally awe-struck.

Anyway, Bobby P. was called up to K.C. in mid-season and every Islanders fan was devastated at the time. But I guess there's a reason Major League pitching isn't Triple-A pitching, and unfortunately for Bobby, he was back in Hawaii in a few weeks. --- JohnTucson March 8, 2010
