From Baseball-Reference.com>>The Baseball Encyclopedia was the first statistical analysis in sports that used computers to compile statistics. It was first published by Macmillan in 1969. It is sometimes referred to as The Macmillan Baseball Encyclopedia. The original Encyclopedia featured statistics that were recalculated from the original game box scores rather than the league statistics report, which were often found to be unreliable.

"Big Mac" was the pre-eminent reference for baseball statistics for 20 years until the publication of Total Baseball in 1988. The current volume weighs seven pounds.>>

Question to anyone who happens to stumble in here:

What happened to the Macmillan database of box scores? Did somebody buy it from Macmillan? Total Baseball? Is it available now for use by baseball researchers?
