Talk:Bárbaro Garbey

The quote includes a basic lie. Garbey was hardly the first Cuban national team member to play in the USA. See Connie Marrero, Willie Miranda, Nap Reyes, Rogelio Martinez, Julio Moreno, Izzy Leon, Angel Fleitas and Sandy Consuegra at least from the pre-Castro era. - --Mischa 14:57, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

I think it's clearly meant post-Castro. Notice how all the guys you name played in the 1950's - i.e. before Contreras or any contem, porary Cuban player was born. --Philippe 15:07, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Yeah, to a guy like Contreras who was born in 1971, Garbey would have been the first one he knew of, and to baseball players in his age group, they would presumably have thought of him as the first one. However, good catch, Mischa - I too was thinking of Garbey as the first one of his era. - Randy 15:17, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Garbey did not play in the 1978 Amateur World Series, so your sources here made another error. He did play in 1976. - --Mischa 07:47, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
