Al Heist was my first ballplayer hero. As a 12 or 13 yr old I was a regular at all Stockton Ports homegames. I had the pleasure of playing pepper and shagging for Al Heist and he was a real gentleman and hero. I recall how proud I was of him in the early 60's when he made his major league debut.
