I'm paraphrasing what was discussed on the Fan590 a few days ago. TO can't possibly hope to outspend the Yankees or the Red Sox, so Anthopoulos is looking where the other teams have yet to snatch up all the good players. They're extensively scouting in Latin America, and the hope is that they can identify the best younger players and ship 'em off to their Minor League affiliates. Hopefully, this will allow them to compete in a few years. Basically, the other teams don't seem to pay much attention to Latin American youth, and this has historically been a great place to get new players (think of the Jays in the 80's and 90's with Raul Mondesi, Roberto Alomar etc). Hope is they can build from the ground up, getting new blood relatively cheaply...Oaktree_b 23:28, 19 July 2010 (EDT)

Another ho-hum season is almost done. Are we the new 4th place team in the AL East? Been stuck here for a few years... Guys on the radio hope not, as the Yanks and Bosox teams are getting older, and will probably lose a few veteran players next year. The Jays are young and healthy, and the hope is that if the young pitching staff can keep it together, we can maybe content in 2011 for a playoff spot.

I wanted to work the words "lackluster" or "sad-sack" into the text but decided against it... :) Oaktree_b 22:31, 2 September 2010 (EDT)

Us Pirates fans would be ecstatic if our club did as well as the 2010 Jays. - --Mischa 08:47, 3 September 2010 (EDT)

I agree with Mischa. This is a good youg team with some exciting talent. It's just that they're in the wrong division. There's nothing sad-sack about them. --Philippe 13:26, 3 September 2010 (EDT)

Oh I hear ya guys, it's just that it's been almost 20 yrs since the World Series win and we're hungry for something, anything at this point. Just once we want a run for the post-season...Oaktree_b 16:30, 4 September 2010 (EDT)

The Pirates haven't had a .500 season since my son's main babysitter (now off to college) was under a year old. - --Mischa 20:32, 5 September 2010 (EDT)
