Stew "Doc" Bowers played three years in the major leagues. He was one of the youngest players in the American League during his first two seasons.
Stew was at Gettysburg College in 1935 and made his major league debut in August 1935. He pitched in 10 games with an ERA of 3.42, better than the team ERA of 4.05. He was little more than half the age of Lefty Grove, one of the older pitchers on the team.
Bowers also pitched in the minors from 1936-41 and served in the United States Military during World War II.
After baseball, He worked for the American Insulator Company and the Ford Motor Company until his retirement. Bowers passed away on December 14, 2005. He was ninety years of age.
