As of 2009, Steve Sparks is one of only seven true knuckleball pitchers in the 21st Century, the others being Tim Wakefield, Jared Fernandez, Dennis Springer, R.A. Dickey, Charlie Haeger and Charlie Zink.
In the spring of 1995 Sparks dislocated his left shoulder while trying to rip a phone book in half.
