Steve Basil played in the minor leagues in 1917, 1920, and 1922-1923.
Basil became an umpire in the Cotton States League in 1924. He umpired in the South Atlantic Association in 1928-1929 and the Texas League in 1930-1935. Basil was then an American League umpire from 1936 to 1942.
