Steve Whitaker was the regular right fielder for the 1967 New York Yankees. He played five years in the majors.
As a rookie in 1966, he drew notice when he slugged .491 on a team that slugged .374. He was two years younger than teammate Joe Pepitone.
He was the # 5 outfielder for the 1969 Seattle Pilots, a team made famous by Jim Bouton's book.
He is one of three major leaguers (through 2008) with the last name "Whitaker".
- In 1967, Whitaker led all American League outfielders with six double plays.
