[edit] Biographical Information
Steve Wapnick was drafted three times in his career:
- 1985 January Regular Phase, 2nd round (47th pick) by the Oakland Athletics
- 1985 June Secondary Phase, 5th round (87th pick) by the San Diego Padres
- 1987 June Regular Phase, 30th round (776th pick) by the Toronto Blue Jays
He ended up signing with the Blue Jays.
Overall, in 12 career major league innings of work, he walked 14 and struck out 7. Undoubtedly, his lack of control limited his time in the Major Leagues.
- Wapnick wore two numbers in his career-43 and 51.
- Wapnick was one of two Jewish baseball players to make their Major League debut in 1990. The other was Scott Radinsky.
- Wapnick currently resides in Coarsegold, California.
- Wapnick, as of 2006, is the only player in Major League history with a last name that starts with "Wap". There are currently no players in the minor leagues that have a chance of "threatening" this title any time soon.
