Stefan Welch is a minor league infielder. His father Darren Welch played in the Olympics.

In 2005, Welch was signed by the New York Mets after being scouted by Tony Harris. In the 2006 Claxton Shield, he was 0 for 1 with 3 walks for South Australia. He played for Australia in the 2006 World Junior Championship. He hit .167/.214/.208 in the 2007 Claxton Shield. He made his US debut in 2007, batting .288/.346/.353 in 36 games for the GCL Mets. In 2008, he batted .380/.415/.500 in the Claxton Shield.

In 2008, Stefan split time between the Kingsport Mets (.281/.316/.447 with 8 triples in 63 G) and the Savannah Sand Gnats (5 for 19, 2B, HR, 2 BB). The corner infielder led the Appalachian League in triples. He was on Australia's roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic and came into one game as a defensive sub but did not bat in the Classic.

He split 2009 between Savannah and the St. Lucie Mets, hitting .266/.327/.396 with seven home runs and 47 RBI in 82 games. With St. Lucie in 2010, he hit .256/.325/.395 with eight home runs and 68 RBI in 133 games and in 2011, also with St. Lucie, he hit .271/.361/.438 with 16 home runs and 53 RBI in 129 games.
