[edit] Team Information

The Stark County Terriers are a Summer Collegiate Baseball team based out of Canton, OH. The Terriers joined the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League in 1999, and have since trained collegiate players from 27 states and Canada. The roster of the Stark County Terriers has entertained players from 52 colleges and universities throughout their existence as of 2006. The Terriers play their home games on the campus of Walsh University.

As a Major League Baseball sanctioned team, the Stark County Terriers are dedicated and designed to provide the nation's collegiate players the opportunity to compete at a higher level and prepare for entering the Major League Draft. The Terriers operate in a similar manner to a Minor League team: playing nightly in stadiums before fans, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment and experiencing road trips between games.

The Terriers actively recruit collegiate players from throughout the United States and Canada. Similar to Single A and Independent teams, once a player has been signed to a contract with the team, they are assigned a host family to live with during their stay in Stark County. Players are unpaid in order to maintain NCAA eligibility. The Terriers will, however, find summer employment for those players who wish to work while playing.

As of the 2007 season, the Terriers have had 31 former Terriers have been drafted by Major League Baseball, while 10 former players have signed with Independent teams.

[edit] Team Eccentricities

The Stark County Terriers charge relatively little in ticket prices, and in order to finance equipment, staffing, health and travel needs the team must rely on other financial sources. Like many other Summer Collegiate Baseball teams, the Terriers rely largely on sponsors to meet financial needs. The Terriers, however, are unique in that they meet the cover a great deal of their financial expenses by operating a bingo parlor. Proceeds from Terriers Bingo allow the club to operate several junior Terriers teams to farm and develop local high school and collegiate talent.
