[edit] Biographical Information
Stan Baumgartner was the second player from the University of Chicago to come to the major leagues. He broke in at age 19, and spent his whole major league career in Philadelphia, first with the Phillies and then with the Athletics. He had his best year in 1924, going 13-6 for a team that was under .500. His ERA was fourth in the league that year.
One source says he played from 1927-33 with the Bushwicks, a semi-pro team in the New York City area.
Baumgartner wrote sports for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 1929 until his passing.
